ABOUT THE SCAM PREVENTION AWARENESS PROJECT

Be Scam Aware

Welcome to the Scam Prevention Awareness Project, your go-to resource for learning about scams being perpetrated against unsuspecting consumers. Our mission is simple: to make sure you are aware of and are able to recognize the various types of scams that are being perpetrated and the techniques being used to successfully implement them, so that you can avoid falling victim. Whether it’s a phishing email, a fake investment opportunity, or a fraudulent online marketplace, we’re here to help you stay one step ahead.

Don't Be a Victim

Have you fallen victim to a scam? If not, consider yourself lucky. According to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), in 2023, there were 880,418 complaints from the American public, with potential losses surpassing $12.5 billion. While these numbers are high, keep in mind that they only represent internet crime. The numbers from 2024 have yet to trickle in, and it’s very likely we’ll see a substantial increase in both complaints and estimated losses when those numbers get counted. Unfortunately, the outlook for 2025 does not look promising.  With the sudden rise in AI and other technology, 2025 is guaranteed to be a record-breaking year as far as scams are concerned.
